Energion Expand Author Honored in Home Town Magazine

From Bogalusa to the World: Celebrating Dr. Dolly Berthelot’s Legacy of Words and Wisdom

Dr. Dolly Berthelot’s remarkable journey from the small southeastern Louisiana town of Bogalusa to becoming an internationally recognized author, educator, and communicator is a testament to the power of expression and resilience. As the eldest of seven children, her early experiences in Bogalusa shaped her path, instilling a love for writing and a passion for connecting with others. From her first paid column in high school to her transformative career as a teacher, consultant, and travel writer, Dr. Dolly has dedicated her life to empowering others through purposeful storytelling and communication.

Dr. Dolly’s inspiring story is told in the summer edition of Washington Parish Living, a publication of the Bogalusa Daily News. This tribute emphasizes her ties to Bogalusa, and her heartfelt poem, Homage to Bogalusa, which reflects on the town’s influence on her life and her enduring hope for its future.

Featured in this story is the Paper Queen contest. When Dolly Adams won Paper Queen In 1961, it was not a traditional beauty contest but based on ticket sales to the grand ball for July 4th weekend. Common assumption was that wealthier girls would win, as usual. Dolly came from hard working first generation Americans then stll struggling to raise her six sisters (and soon after baby brother). She ignored warnings and met the mill shifts daily for many weeks, cheerfully talking with workers whose generosity helped promote one of their own. The experience influenced her perspective and her future. Thus the line in “Homage to Bogalusa” about huzpah and hope.

Dr. Dolly is the author of Energion Expand titles Perfectly SquareTM: A Fantasy Fable for All Ages and Scars to Stars: A Memoir of Head, Heart, and Soul.

Energion Expand celebrates the diverse roots and experiences of its authors. We are delighted to have one of our authors honored in this way.
